On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the Bill Crabtree Foundation and the Wake County chapter of First In Families of North Carolina came together for a special summer community event called “What’s the Scoop?” The event took place at the Historic Carousel House at John Chavis Memorial Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, bringing families from across Wake County together for an afternoon of free ice cream, community resources, and back-to-school support for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The event also provided the perfect opportunity to distribute 100 backpacks filled with essential school supplies—one for each child. The goal was simple: to help families prepare for the upcoming school year while easing some of the financial burden of back-to-school shopping. Volunteers from both organizations worked together throughout the event, sharing their time, their energy, and their hearts in service to the community. And on this day, that is exactly what we did—with the hope of helping make this a great school year for every child.
